Accrediting academic courses
IHE is licensed by the Engineering Council (UK) to accredit degrees and other course for entry to Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer and Engineering Technician.
It exercises the licence through the Joint Board of Moderators which is a partnership with ICE, CIHT and IStructE.

JBM sets out guidance on degrees and further learning and visits universities and companies who have applied for its accreditation. Visit teams normally consists of two academic and two practising engineers alongside a secretary from one of the partner institutions and the visit lasts up to two days. Foundation Degree assessments will be less onerous. Higher Nationals and EngTech qualifications are approved nationally, not by visits.
